San Bernardino Courthouse

Owner:

Judicial Council of California

Architect:

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill

General Contractor:

Rudolph & Sletten

The San Bernardino Courthouse complex occupies a total of 361,700 square feet on a seven-acre site. The project consists of two building elements: an 11-story courtroom tower visible on the skyline, and a linear, three-story podium that holds the street edge and correlates to the scale of an adjacent historic courthouse. As the most significant single building project to occur in San Bernardino in decades, the Justice Center creates a visible landmark for the city while engaging the public with vibrant open space.

Signature quality is always important to us. Positive reviews are received not only from owners and architects, but also from other trades who compliment Shaw & Sons personnel as helpful to their trade and recognize the high quality of our work. San Bernardino Courthouse used all white cement for high solar reflectivity, minimizing the heat island effect. Walls were a smooth form finish to contrast with the burlap finish on all the paving.
